Firestone Park Branch Library is accessible from Interstate 77 at the Archwood Avenue or Wilbeth Road exits.
Our Kids Create for Project Linus! Teens at Firestone Park gathered on Tuesday, August 19th and made quilts to donate to Project Linus. 14 participants and were able to complete 11 quilts that will be donated to Akron Children’s Hospital and to a local battered women’s shelter. Several of the girls attending had never used a sewing machine before and they were very proud of their creations. They were equally happy to be giving away what they had worked so hard making. One teen commented that she hoped her quilt would go to a baby girl at Children’s Hospital who really needed to feel better.
The Firestone Park Branch replaces the Chamberlain Branch Library, itself the successor to the original Firestone Branch. The Chamberlain Branch was the first of a series of new library buildings built in the 1950’s and 60’s. It opened in 1951 at a cost of $69,690 including furniture and equipment. The 4,850 square foot building was named for James W. Chamberlain whose bequest in 1921 to the Akron-Summit County Public Library has funded the Chamberlain Scholarships and many other educational projects of the library system.
