Goodyear Branch Library is accessible from State Route 8 at the Perkins St. exit to Union St. to East Market Street to Goodyear Blvd. It is also accessible from Interstate 76 at the Kelly Ave. exit, north on Kelly, west on Goodyear Blvd.


    Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Goodyear Friends of the Library Booksale has been postponed and will not take place on Saturday August 16. The Friends will announce an alternative date.


     


    The orignal building (known as East Branch Library) first opened in 1922 in a rented room in the Goodyear Club House. In 1939 it became the first branch library of the Akron Public Library to occupy a building designed, built, furnished and owned by the library system. The building cost $45,000.

    Current library statistics indicate that Goodyear Branch has 7,234 registered borrowers, circulated 134,385 items in 2006, and has a collection of 57,529 items.

    We are open 6 days a week to meet your needs for education, information and recreation.

    Our friendly, skilled staff includes a branch manager who is also the adult services librarian, a children’s librarian who serves intermediate school age children and teens (grades 4-12), and a children's librarian who serves young children (babies through grade three) and their families. Our staff also includes public services assistants, and student assistants.

    At Goodyear Branch Library you can find:

    • A diverse collection in a variety of formats:
      • Books, videos, and other materials. Because of community interest in these topics, our collection is particularly strong in the areas of Black Literature, romance, mystery fiction, science fiction and careers.
      • 172 different magazine and newspaper titles.
      • Reference materials in a variety of formats including World Book Encyclopedia.
      • Videotapes, DVDs, and sound recordings.
      • A strong parent-teacher collection.
