Executive Administrative Assistant

Salary: Grade 10, $19.42/hour

Responsibilities:

Provides administrative support to the Director and Deputy Director. Duties include performing confidential work requiring a high level of judgment and discretion. Serves as receptionist for and facilitates access to the Director, including scheduling and coordinating meetings and appointments and maintaining calendar; provides back-up support to the Human Resources Assistant and Administrative reception desk as needed; composes and types miscellaneous correspondence for the Director and Deputy Director; maintains the Director’s office files; assists the Director in preparing for monthly Board meetings, including preparing, assembling, and distributing agendas and meeting packets; contacts Board members to confirm attendance at committee and Board meetings; sets up for and cleans up after Board and committee meetings, including preparing/providing coffee, water, and refreshments; attends Board and committee meetings, records and takes minutes and transcribes meeting minutes; attends administrative team meetings and takes, prepares, and distributes minutes; coordinates posting of approved Board reports to the Library website as directed; assists in preparing responses to public records requests; and other duties as assigned.

Ability to work with and maintain confidential information; ability to manage and follow through with multiple projects and tasks simultaneously; ability to maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, Library staff and customers; ability to demonstrate professionalism at all times, including when interacting with persistent and/or dissatisfied customers or employees; ability to prioritize, plan, and organize work effectively to ensure accurate, thorough, and timely completion of assignments; ability to remain calm under pressure; ability to adjust work schedule and remain flexible to meet changing work needs and demands; strong interpersonal skills, including excellent verbal and written communication skills; accurate and proficient typing and proofreading skills; demonstrated PC experience, including proficiency with multiple software packages and ability to learn new software quickly; knowledge of principles and practices of office management; previous customer service experience; minimum of 10 years of experience in an Executive Administrative Assistant role, or Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and 5 years of experience in an Executive Administrative Assistant role, or equivalent combination of education and experience; valid Ohio driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and continuous insurability required.

Librarian - Children's

Hours: Job-Share (22.5 hours) including evenings and weekend hours
Salary: Grade 11, $19.96/hour

Responsibilities:

Provides library service to customers with emphasis on information and reference services, programming, technology support and community engagement; plans and prepares displays; provides services to special populations, i.e. schools, preschools, and daycares, including visits to assigned schools on a regular basis; plans and conducts tours for Library customers and community groups; performs collection maintenance duties; communicates and collaborates with Centralized Collection Development staff regarding trends and interests ;compiles bibliographies and locates hard-to-find reference materials; maintains awareness in changing technology and how it is incorporated into programming and direct customer service; and performs other tasks as assigned. 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of professional library science, including familiarity with reference and bibliographic resources in the children’s services areas; good knowledge of reader interest levels; ability to develop programs; good research skills; ability to speak and write effectively; sound professional judgment; ability to direct the work of others; and good customer-relation skills, including a pleasing personality and the ability to get along well with others.  A Master of Library and Information Science degree issued by an ALA-accredited school of library and information science is required and some previous library experience is preferred.  Applicants with 6 credit hours or less towards completion of the MLIS will also be considered under certain conditions. Individuals hired under these conditions will begin as Public Service Assistant III, Grade 10, Step 1 ($19.42/hour) and upon confirmation of completion of the MLIS degree will be moved to Librarian, Grade 11, Step 1, ($19.96/hour).

Substitute Public Service Assistant

The Akron-Summit County Public Library is seeking qualified applicants to substitute in the branches and Main Library for Public Service Assistant positions. Qualified candidates must have recent library experience (preferably in a public library setting). Applicants must have completed at least two years of college to work as a PSA. Former ASCPL employees will be considered, as well as current employees of other library systems. Hours may also include evenings and weekends and are not set or guaranteed as substitutes will be called on an “as-needed” basis. Candidates with the flexibility to report to work within two hours of being called and those with reliable transportation are desired. Training will be provided.

Responsibilities:

Assists customers in the routine selection and location of library materials and in utilizing library technology; answers routine reference questions; registers borrowers; performs routine circulation duties; maintains circulation records; collects fines and charges for payment of lost materials; performs opening and closing routines; performs a variety of clerical tasks and other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

An interest in and aptitude for library work; willingness to learn professional library techniques; good customer-relation skills, including a pleasing personality and ability to work well with others; record-keeping ability; ability to perform simple typing/PC tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy; ability to handle delivery bags weighing 25 lbs. and push book carts loaded with materials with or without reasonable accommodation; customer service experience, recent library experience, and completion of two years of college required; and possession of a bachelor’s degree preferred.
