Librarian - Library Express Delivery Service

Salary: Grade 11, $20.16/hourly - Non-Exempt

Responsibilities:

Advises and assists customers with the selection, organization and interpretation of Library materials.  Researches and answers reference questions either in person or by telephone.  Performs a full range of collection maintenance duties, including merchandising, weeding, and working with Collection Development.  Plans and conducts programs for Library customers.  Leads a monthly book club. Maintains special files and collections.  Provides services to special populations, i.e. shut-ins, nursing home residents, corrections facilities, etc.  Oversees work and training of support staff.  Gives book talks to community groups.  Establishes and maintains contacts with appropriate community organizations.  Performs circulation routines, including filling requests prior to bookmobile and van runs.  Adheres to established customer service guidelines and procedures.  Drives a van and offers off-site service in all weather conditions.  Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of professional library science, including familiarity with reference and bibliographic resources in the adult services areas; good knowledge of reader interest levels; good knowledge of publishers and their practices; good research skills; ability to speak and write effectively; sound professional judgment; ability to direct the work of others; and good customer-relation skills, including a pleasing personality and the ability to get along well with others; ability to handle delivery bags and push book trucks loaded with materials with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to learn to drive all Mobile Services vehicles: currently a 27’ long box truck and a 29’ long bookmobile.  Possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one, a good driving record, and insurable driving status at all times is required.  A Master of Library Science degree issued by an ALA-accredited school of library and information science is required and some previous library experience is preferred.  Applicants with 6 credit hours or less towards completion of the MLIS will also be considered under certain conditions.  Individuals hired under these conditions will begin as a Sr. Public Service Assistant, Grade 10, Step 1, and ($19.61/hour) and upon confirmation of completion of the MLS degree will be moved to Librarian, Grade 11, Step 1, ($20.16/hour.)

Public Service Assistant II

Responsibilities:

Assists customers in the routine selection and location of library materials and in utilizing library technology; answers routine reference questions; registers borrowers; performs routine circulation duties; maintains circulation records; collects fines and charges for payment of lost materials; monitors floating collections; performs collection maintenance and merchandising tasks; performs opening and closing routines; performs a variety of clerical tasks and other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

An interest in and aptitude for library work; willingness to learn professional library techniques; good customer relation skills, including a pleasing personality and ability to work well with others; record-keeping ability; ability to perform simple typing/PC tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy; ability to handle delivery bags and crates and push book carts loaded with materials, with or without reasonable accommodation; customer service experience and completion of two years of college required; previous library work experience and possession of a bachelor’s degree preferred.

Security Officer

Hours: Part-time (22.5 hours), including evening and weekend. Hours and location may change according to the Library’s needs.
Salary: Grade 4, $12.44/hour (Non-Exempt)

Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of duties as related to the security of Library facilities, employees, and customers, including, but not limited to: complying with all safety policies and procedures; performing routine recordkeeping activities; patrolling interior and exterior of Library buildings; securing buildings at closing and setting alarm systems; accompanying Library employees to parking areas; monitoring electronic or video security system; advising Library customers of behavior guidelines and enforcing those guidelines; observing customer behavior and intervening when problems occur; completing incident reports as necessary; and other duties as assigned. Work may require travel between Main and Branch libraries; must have reliable transportation.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated ability for independent thinking and decision-making; ability to work with minimal supervision; ability to speak and write effectively; ability to work well with others; high school diploma or equivalent required; experience in the field of building security preferred; previous customer service experience preferred; good customer relations skills and a pleasing personality required; good physical condition required; possession of a valid Ohio Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one is required.

Systems Support Technician

Salary: Grade 9, $17.46/hour - Non-Exempt

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include supporting the Library’s end-users in diagnosing & resolving simple hardware and software issues involving internet connectivity, email, phones, printers, copiers, Office Suite, library software, and more; delivers service and support including, but not limited to, resolving username and password problems, uninstalling and reinstalling software applications, verifying proper hardware and software set up, power cycling equipment, and troubleshooting email issues for end-users by phone and via remote PC connection; support involves clearly communicating technical solutions in a user-friendly, professional manner and includes receiving, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving end-user help requests. Works evening and weekends as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrated problem-solving ability; ability to accurately access customer needs; excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate in a user-friendly manner; strong documentation skills with keen attention to detail; experience with desktop operating systems; knowledge of common software, hardware, and peripheral equipment. Minimum high school education or equivalent required, two years of college level IT coursework preferred; work experience with end-user relations in IT preferred; IT industry recognized certifications preferred. Possession of a valid Ohio Driver’s license (work may involve traveling between ASCPL libraries) or the ability to obtain one is required.
