Responsibilities:

The ASCPL is hiring an Accountant/Payroll Supervisor to support our Mission Statement to provide resources for learning and leisure, information services, meeting spaces, and programs for all ages that support, improve, and enrich individual, family, and community life.

This role performs a variety of accounting duties, including, but not limited to processing, reviewing, auditing, and approving payroll; accounts receivable; accounts payable; purchase orders; inventory; journal entries; month-end and year–end closing; reconciliations; system reports; employee and vendor information; supporting planning and implementing internal controls, policies, and procedures for payroll, budgetary, cash handling, inventory, and record retention to comply with legal requirements and promote more efficient workflows; helping with budget planning, reporting and maintenance; completing and filing payroll, wage, tax, and OPERS reports, insurances, and other payroll-related obligations; submitting payments and maintaining all related records; completing reporting of Section 125 deductions to plan providers; transmitting payroll, direct deposit files, and taxes electronically; preparing and reporting W-2 forms; and selecting, evaluating, and supervising the  Payroll Assistant, whose primary responsibility is payroll processing.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required:  Possession of a bachelor’s degree and previous accounting experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and accounting experience may be considered.  Payroll experience.  Demonstrated knowledge of accounting and payroll practices.  Ability to use software packages such as MS Office Suite, inventory, database, accounting, and payroll software proficiently.  Demonstrated ability to direct the work of and train others.  Ability to maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.  Ability to work independently, prioritize work, multi-task, and make sound decisions.  Ability to meet deadlines with high rate of accuracy.  Ability to work with and maintain confidential information. 

Preferred:  Supervisory experience.
