Security Officer (Three Positions Available)

Main Library and Branch libraried as assigned
Hours: 2 Part-time (22.5 hours) positions
             1 Full-Time (37.5 hours) position
             Includes evening, Saturday and Sunday hours; not job-share eligible
Salary: Grade 4, $12.56/hourly (Non-Exempt)

Responsibilities:

Performs a variety of duties as related to the security of Library facilities, employees, and customers, including, but not limited to: complying with all safety policies and procedures; performing routine recordkeeping activities; patrolling interior and exterior of Library buildings; securing buildings at closing and setting alarm systems; accompanying Library employees to parking areas; responsible to being the last person to leave the Library premises; monitoring electronic or video security system; advising Library customers of behavior guidelines and enforcing those guidelines; observing customer behavior and intervening when problems occur; assisting with evacuation and movement of staff and public in emergency situations; completing incident reports as necessary; and other duties as assigned. Work may require travel between Main and Branch libraries; must have reliable transportation.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Demonstrated ability for independent thinking and decision-making to assess potential problems situations quickly and discreetly and effectively defuse them without disruption of library services; ability to work with minimal supervision; ability to speak and write effectively; ability to work well with others; high school diploma or equivalent required; ability to operate a PC and other library equipment; experience in the field of building security preferred; previous customer service experience preferred; good customer relations skills and a pleasing personality required; good physical condition required (must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time and effective hearing and vision is necessary); possession of a valid Ohio Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one is required.
