Lynn McKinnon, creative director and owner of Illuminate Wear, a Christian clothing line, became a member of Akron-Summit County Public Library’s Microbusiness Center in April of 2019. Lynn regularly visits the Microbusiness Center to brainstorm about her business concept and to consult with Tracy Williams, Microbusiness Specialist, and had the following to say about her membership and consulting sessions:
“I started working with Tracy after coming across a post that she made on social media about the Library’s co-working space. I called and scheduled an appointment to sign up for a membership to the Microbusiness Center. In the process, I was taken on a tour of the Library to see the amenities available to entrepreneurs/small business owners and the community. I informed Tracy that I needed assistance with networking, and she began to consult with me to help me conquer my fear of speaking about my business in public. I would meet her at networking events, and she would show me the ins and outs of networking. At first, I was afraid, but once I started speaking about my business I felt comfortable, and eventually, I started to network on my own. Tracy encouraged me to wear my inspirational T-shirts as a showcase of my business and my product. She would quiz me about the events that I attended to make sure that I was getting the most out of my networking experience.”
Located on the first floor of Main Library, the Microbusiness Center provides accessible business training, educational resources, and individualized direction to established business owners, entrepreneurs, and students.
