How Does it Work?
SearchOhio is free and easy to use with a valid library card. If we don't have the item you are looking for, simply click the SearchOhio icon found in our catalog to expand your search. If another library owns the book, click "Request this title" and follow the prompts. The process is very similar to searching and placing a hold in our own Akron-Summit County Public Library catalog.
What type of items can be borrowed?
Library users can request books, CDs, DVDs, VHS, Books on Cassette, and Books on CD. How long can I keep the items? Books and other media will circulate for 21 days. DVDs and Videos will circulate for 7 days.
How long does it take to receive my requests?
Available items generally take about three to five business days to get to your pickup location. You will be notified that the item is ready for pickup in the same way you are currently notified, via e-mail, phone, or mail. Your items will remain on hold for seven days.
Can I renew the items?
Yes. Items may be renewed up to 3 times if no one is waiting for the items.
Are there any restrictions?
Fines and fees on your library card must be under $10.00. The system will only accept holds on items that are currently available to be checked out.
How do I return my items?
Return your items at any Akron Summit County Public Library. The library will send them back to the proper library. DO NOT remove stickers on the items borrowed from Search Ohio as these labels help us return the items to the owning library.
What Prevents a Request from Going Through?
A number of things can affect a request from being completed:
Your library fine is $10.00 or more.
Your card has a temporary status.
One of the Akron Summit County Public Libraries has an available copy.
A hold has been placed on the item at the owning library.
All copies in the SearchOhio catalog are checked out, missing, etc. Only titles that have available items will be loaned.
What are the Fines and Replacement Fees for SearchOhio Items?
Overdue fines are 50-cents per day, per item. Fines and charges cannot be negotiated and there are no exceptions. To avoid charges, renew and return materials on time.
