The Akron-Summit County Public Library has been a congressionally designated depository library for U.S. Government documents since 1952. The Government Documents Collection contains material published and distributed by the United States Government Printing Office.

Public access to the government documents is guaranteed by public law. (Title 44 United States Code). Anyone, regardless of age, needing to access online government resources, should ask for assistance at the Reference Desk.

A large amount of federal government information published since the 1990s is available electronically. Staff can provide assistance in locating, downloading or emailing this information. Documents also come in many conventional formats including books, pamphlets, maps, periodicals, microfiche and DVDs.

FDLP Basic Collection

These Federal Depository Library Program’s Basic Collection are vital sources of information that support the public’s right to know about the workings and essential activities of the Federal Government. Much of the collection is available through the Akron-Summit County Public Library’s catalog and links there will direct patrons to the latest information available online; however, not all of the collection is on the Library’s catalog. Please ask for assistance if you are unable to locate material.

The Library is also a depository library for the State of Ohio and the Library’s catalog also provides information and links to state documents.

The documents collection can provide information on a variety of subjects to many different constituencies. Whether you are interested in history or current events, working on a class or work assignment or just planning a vacation to a state or national park, you are sure to find something useful. Businessmen, entrepreneurs, and local officials can access essential demographics and statistics in developing their plans.
